How well do I do it?

What do I know? - The Internet.

OK, so I don't know the Internet personally, but I do know a fair bit about it, at both nuts-and-bolts and strategic levels.

I'm not a hard-core comms specialist, so can't converse all day on the innards of Winsock 2.1 or the SMTP protocol. However I do know what these things are, and why they're important to users. I've also reviewed a number of Net-based utilities (see sample below).

My major interest in the Net, however, is its development into a true Information Superhighway. In the past few years I've campaigned, via my column in PC Plus, for coordinated action to give the UK a mass-market broadband infrastructure, and highlighted the importance of micro-transactions, which I'm convinced are the key to e-commerce achieving critical mass.

MailPush review. This mail notification service was one of the cheekiest products I've ever seen, and one of the very few to make me think that BT might be getting a raw deal.

Column, October 99. Back to normal, as Oftel struggles heroically to stop BT giving a raw deal to everyone else.
